The Sun Hid In Her Cave When She Deserts The Night.

(When we all crawled into the cave.)

“The sun to me is dark
And silent as the moon,
When she deserts the night
Hid in her vacant, interlunar cave.”

- John Milton

I went into a real cave, But
I could just as easily go into an unreal one.

Epimenides was sent by his father into the field to look for a sheep, turned out of the road at mid-day and lay down in a certain cave and fell asleep, and slept there fifty-seven years; and after that, when awake, he went on looking for the sheep, thinking that he had been taking a short nap.

- Diogenes Laertius

Don't sleep in a cave,
You could wake up fifty-seven years late.

The Moon And Her Wondrous Tale.

(Yesterday, I revisited Li Bai's Drinking Alone Under The Moon. Picture - Morning Moon In Lucky Valley, Pahang.)

Soon as the evening shades prevail,
The moon takes up the wondrous tale,
And nightly to the listening earth
Repeats the story of her birth.

- Joseph Addison, in the "Spectator"

The moon is at her full, and riding high,
Floods the calm fields with light.
The airs that hover in the summer sky
Are all asleep to-night.

- William Cullen Bryant, The Tides

The silver light, which, hallowing tree and tower,
Sheds beauty and deep softness o'er the whole,
Breathes also to the heart, and o'er it throws
A loving languor which is not repose.

- Lord Byron

The moon's beauty
Is best appreciated in silence.

A Balloon Steals My Worries.

(Today I thought of balloons after seeing this picture goes swishing on by...)

The Balloon
I went to the park
And I bought a balloon.
It sailed through the sky
Like a large orange moon.
It bumped and it fluttered
And swam with the clouds.
Small birds flew around it
In high chirping crowds.
It bounced and it balanced
And bowed with the breeze.
It skimmed past the leaves
On the top of the trees.
And then as the day
Started turning to night
I gave a short jump
And I held the string tight
And home we all sailed
Through the darkening sky
The orange balloon, the small birds
And I.
- Karla Kuskin (adapted by James W. King)

I was sad
I went to the park
I saw a balloon floating
- Away with my worries.

God Bless The Moon.

Soon as the evening shades prevail,

The moon takes up the wondrous tale,

And nightly to the listening earth

Repeats the story of her birth.

- Joseph Addison

Listen to the tale of the moon tonight.

I see the moon,

And the moon sees me;

God bless the moon,

And God bless me.

Full Moon On A Dark Night.

“When a finger points to the moon, the imbecile looks at the finger”

- Chinese Proverbs

The imbecile's finger is larger than the moon.

“May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night and a smooth road all the way to your door.”

-Irish Blessings quotes

On a dark night without a moon, your kind words will still warm a cold evening.
